NeuroGut-Clinical

GBCI-Clinical consists of three layers: inner, substrate, and outer.

1. Inner Layer

The inner layer (~0.2mm thin) consists of a flexible patch carrying eight sensing electrodes and one reference electrode, arranged in a grid over the upper abdomen, plus a small navel alignment mark that helps users position the device consistently each time. The electrodes are embedded in a soft, stretchable substrate made from skin-friendly materials such as medical-grade silicone and thermoplastic polyurethane for their biocompatibility, elasticity, and comfort on the skin.

2. Substrate Layer

The substrate layer (~4mm) formed from a compressible, porous foam—medical-grade silicone or polyurethane foam—for their cushioning, breathability, and ability to conform to body contours while reducing pressure points on the skin. On the side facing the inner layer, the substrate contains a holder for each electrode; each holder includes a small channel through which fine lead wires pass to the opposite surface. On the side facing the outer layer, these channels terminate at contact points where the signal-collection module is seated.

3. Outer Layer

The outer layer acts like a protective lid and visual guide for the whole device. It is made from TPU that is smooth, wipeable, and resistant to sweat and everyday wear. On its surface, a simplified anatomical diagram of the stomach and intestines is printed, with clearly labeled regions and circular marks indicating the underlying electrode positions
